London Blitz
London suffered immensely from the blitz. Being a big city; the capital of England, London was a key target for the bomb dropping. Many buildings were destroyed and people were killed- but it wasn't all negative! The Blitz brought everybody together, it created strong bonds between neighbours and neighbourhoods.
The start of the blitz
Air raids began in September 1940- the 7th at around 4:00 PM. For the next 57 days after this attack, London was consecutively bombed either morning or night. During this period, more than one million houses were destroyed or damaged, and more than 19,000 civilians were killed. Targets included Ports and largely populated areas - places where the Germans knew would have a major effect if damaged/destroyed.
Blitz spirit
However, the blitz wasn't all death and destruction; there was also an upside to it! The blitz spirit united many citezons - neighbours, neighbourhoods and streets. Everyone supported each other, lik eon big family. Citezons would warn each other if there was an air raid, and they'd help to clear uo the mess after. Everyone managed to remain in a good spirits because the blitz spirit brought everyone together.
